William Henry Harrison

... was the 9th President of the USA. He was elected in 1840 and took office on 4 March 1841. On 26 March he became ill with a cold; the treatments applied by his doctors only seemed to make him worse, and he died on 4 April – exactly one month (31 days) after taking office.

The cause of his illness and death was diagnosed at the time as pneumonia, believed to have been directly caused by the bad weather at his inauguration ceremony; but this is unlikely, as if it were pneumonia the symptoms would have appeared much sooner. Medical analysis in 2014 diagnosed enteric fever (which is more or less synonymous with typhoid).
